The Scar
“…splintered trunks and then the drag, leaving only a fringe of palms between the scar and the sea.” - pg. 9
'The Scar' is an area that was formed when the plane crashed on the island. The plane scratched across the earth leaving a permanent mark on the island. This is symbolic because it is a mark left on the island, that will be there forever and ever, by the boys. And in turn, the island will also leave it's own 'scars' on the boys. It is symbolic because it foreshadows the scars the island will leave on the boys.
