Intention of Topic
I chose the topic Symbolism in The Lord of the Flies because I like how there are a lot of symbols, irony, and double meanings in the book, almost as if there is a secret message, or like it is a map to follow. I like picking apart each meaning of the symbols and I also like to try to challenge myself and look at things from different places. I wanted to see if I could find a new symbol or a new way to look at something in the book. I enjoyed doing this topic. I already knew a few of the symbols and wanted to research them a bit more.
Annotated Citation
I used a literary criticism called Society vs. Savagery: Symbolism in Golding's Lord of the Flies by Rachel Breneman. In this work, the author takes multiple symbols in the Lord of the Flies and picks them apart, breaking them down into what each symbol represents. The literary critisim I used was very helpful. It cited it's work below the article, and each article cited was a solid resource. This makes it a valid source. This is relevant to my topic because I am doing a project on symbols in Lord of the Flies, and the article talks about the symbols and what each symbol represents.
